Holiday Lounge

blog 1209 076

Here’s the card I finally settled on to send out to family. Luckily we have a small family because the coloring was time-consuming! At first glance I didn’t like the Holiday Lounge Designer Series Paper but after playing around with it, it started growing on me. The colors are bold and the design pretty whimsical, and that’s makes it perfect for these cute elves from Stampin’ Up’s Holiday Lineup set.

Here’s wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas!

Peace & Joy

blog 1209 004

I was inspired by this card and since I hadn’t played with the dove die yet, which is part of the Holiday Movers & Shapers die set in the mini catalog, I had to get it out.

First I used the Petals A Plenty embossing folder and the “void” technique where you place a balsa wood frame behind the embossing folder. (see technique here)

We’ll be doing this technique (but not this card) at my December Technique Book classes.

Brayer Techniques Workshop

After teaching stamping classes for a few years, I have decided that there is one tool that causes women to run in fear.  No, it’s not the Stampin’ Around Wheels, that’s a close second!  The most feared thing in our stamping arsenal of tools is the brayer.  But it’s really not that scary once you learn how to use it!  In fact, after teaching the first brayer class on Friday, I saw some relieved smiles on the faces of my students.  They discovered that they CAN do it and that the brayer isn’t so scary after all!

Here are the cards that I came up with.

Sept 09 018 This little bear is surrounded by foliage and trying to escape the bugs with his little skeeter spray can.

Sept 09 020

This one is my personal favorite.  I used the Hostess Level 2 set, Asian Artistry.

Sept 09 021 This is my surfer dude card using the Medallion background stamp as the sun.  We used an oval punch to mask our waves.

Sept 09 019 Here’s my second favorite, I think because of the colors.  I imagined a foggy meadow on a dark fall night and came up with this card.

If you missed this class and are interested in doing these cards, please contact me and I will consider scheduling another round.

More recipe pages

Some of you have been asking if I’ve dropped off the face of the earth, and of course, the answer is “no”!  My blogging has been non-existent lately, and for that I apologize.

The kids are back to school and fall is in the air, so I thought I’d take a moment to show the last four pages of the recipe book pages that we did in class last month.  Tomorrow I’ll show you the cards we did in my brayer class and I must say, I’m proud of what I came up with and equally proud of all the ladies who have mastered the brayering technique!  So watch for those pictures tomorrow…

Here are the recipe pages, (without recipes when I took the pictures).

Butterfly, Butterfly, Flutter Away

I cased this card from the Stampin’ Up demonstrator magazine, which featured some cards by Mary Fish.  Mary used Yo Yo Yellow & Brilliant Blue as the main colors of her card.  I used two of our new In Colors, Rich Razzleberry & Bermuda Bay along with the Sizzix Butterfly Die.

Dream a little dream

Here’s the other July Creative Card Design card, featuring Stampin’ Up’s  “Dreams Du Jour” set.  It is done with some very pale colors, which is not what I generally reach for.  I was apparently in a Soft Subtles mood when I created this!  I’ve been spending so much time playing with the new In Colors, that I guess I needed a break from their bright colors.

 June 2009 035

Stamps: Dreams Du Jour; Ink: Blush Blossom, Basic Grey; Cardstock: Blush Blossom, Certainly Celery, Lavender Lace, Whisper White & Shimmery White; Other: sponges, colored pencils, decorative brads (SU), celery ribbon, markers in celery & lavender lace

The tree is back…

I was so glad to see this tree set “Season of Friendship” make it into the new Stampin’ Up catalog.  It was in a previous mini catalog and when the mini’s end, we never know if any of the items will make it into the “big book”.  I used the pear & bird from “Cheep Talk” to make this card complete.  We’re making this in my July Creative Card Design classes, along with a pocket card featuring Dreams Du Jour which I’ll share with you soon.

Stamps: Season of Friendship, Cheep Talk; Ink: Soft Suede, Dusty Durango, Old Olive, Not Quite Navy, More Mustard; Cardstock: Crushed Curry, Not Quite Navy, Whisper White; Other: wiggle eye, twine & Stampin’ Dimensionals

Recipe Book Pages

Throughout the summer months I’ll be teaching a Recipe Book Class which we started in June. Here’s the cover and the first four pages. I’ll be giving my finished book to my daughter-in-law and she’s so excited. She loves to cook and wants to learn how to fix all of Landon’s favorites so she can surprise him when he comes home from Afghanistan.

June 09 Technique Book Class

I’ve got the cards ready for the June Technique Book Class and I thought I’d share them with you.  The first technique is the Re-inker Wash, which I shared with you a few days ago.  However, since that previous post, I have received my new In Colors and thought it would be fun to use them.  Instead of designing a brand new card, I just changed the colors.

Flooded Street 029

The new In Color re-inkers I used are: Mambo Melon, Rich Razzleberry & Dusty Durango.  The cardstock is Mambo Melon, Rich Razzleberry & Regal Rose DSP.

Here is the Shaving Cream card using Brilliant Blue & Real Red re-inkers along with the new Modern Label punch.   It’s my first patriotic card in quite a while but I figured that July 4th is just around the corner, so I’d better get started.  I’m LOVIN’ the new patriotic stamps coming next month…they’re at the top of my “want list”.

Floating Re-inkers

I decided to play with the Floating Re-inkers technique which has been getting a lot of attention lately, being used with the Fifth Avenue Floral stamp set.

I chose the stamp set Illuminations since it's on the retirement list and I wanted to get more use out of it. The re-inker colors are Garden Green, Old Olive and Handsome Hunter. First I stamped the image with VersaMark on Shimmery White Cardstock, then embossed it with clear embossing powder. Next, I misted the paper with a water bottle. Finally, with an Aqua Painter I dropped the re-inker colors onto the wet paper. The water does the magic for you, but if you want to move the colors around, just use the wet brush.

Raspberry Tart Brag Book

My apologies for the lack of postings.  I guess I will never be a daily poster, although I would like to get in the habit of at least weekly posts!  We shall see…

I have been busy making a baby brag book for my niece’s baby shower later today, and while I’m happy with the results, it’s not exactly what I had in mind to begin with.  You know how projects sometimes evolve as you work with them, and that’s what happened with this.  I had intended to use only Stampin’ Up products, but ended up adding some 7 Gypsy’s rub-ons and some bling from Micheal’s.  Then I messed up on the cover and ended up using some non-SU paper from my stash.  All in all I think it’s pretty cute and I think my niece will love it.

Springtime Cards

Here's what we did in my Monday Card Classes this month. I had not used Heartfelt Thanks in such a long time and I had so much fun creating this card for Easter. Of course, class participants always have the option of adding a different sentiment if they want to, so for some, this was a birthday or thank you card. The organdy ribbon was heated with a heat gun which makes is crimp up and look frilly. It's really easy to do, but you have to work fast as it's also easy to burn a hole right through the ribbon. We clipped one end of the ribbon onto a clipboard and held the other end loosely while heating it. It's kind of hard to see in the picture but in real life it's fabulous!

For this second card I reached for Friends 24-7, which I have been having a ball with. It's such a versatile stamp set and I haven't gotten my fill of it yet. You can be sure to see more samples from this set in the near future!

This card features the spotlighting technique. We used the Top Note Die for the celery & rose mats, just catching one end of each in the die. The ribbon is from Michael's and we did a "cheater" knot. To do that knot, simply tie a first knot (like when you tie your shoes), but before you pull the loop tight, slip it over a finger. Then while it's on your finger, tie another knot and pull it tight. Now slip it off
your finger and cut the loop in half. Wah-lah! You now have a perfect knot. Just wrap the long ends around your card and tape on the backside!

Paper Piecing with Stampin' Up Punches

I've been putting together some cards for my upcoming Paper Piecing with Punches class and these are the projects we'll be doing.
I love Stampin' Up punches because they're heavy duty and easy on the hands, plus they punch through the thick cardstock that Stampin' Up is known for.
If you live in the Roseburg area and would like to participate in this class, please contact me! I have several open spots available.

Playing with Friends 24-7

I’ve been playing with my Friends 24-7 set and having lots of fun with it.  The colors for this card are Almost Amethyst and Sage Shadow and the striped looking paper is from the Taste of Textiles paper pack.  I water colored the flowers with an aqua painter and ink pads “smooshed” onto a CD.  I have a workshop on Thursday and I think this is what we’ll do for our project, but hey, there’s still another day to play…who knows what I’ll finally decide on!

Masculine Cards Stamp Camp Preview

I wanted to share with y'all the cards that we'll be making at my upcoming Masculine Card Stamp Camp. If you live in the Roseburg Oregon area, I still have room for you, so contact me for the details. At my stamp camps I always like to incorporate lots of techniques and fun tricks so that the attendees learn something new (or refresh memories!). This camp features only masculine cards, which many of us find rather challenging...probably because we're so drawn to the frills and flowers and girly girl stuff!
So here's my offering of masculine cards with the techniques we'll be using for each one. Enjoy!

Masculine Card Camp 008 This rustic looking Bronc Buster card features several techniques: polished stone, faux suede, and embossing. The mat under the bronc is the rich looking copper paper from SU's Taste of Textiles paper pack.

Masculine Card Camp 004 For this card I searched and searched for the perfect background paper. I wanted something that had a nautical look and was pleased to find it in Michael's open stock papers.

I always like to throw in some watercoloring (much to the dismay of some campers!), so that's the technique for this card. We'll be using watercolor paper which really helps move the colors around.

Masculine Card Camp 007Don't you love the warm colors on this one? The sunset is sponged in over the embossed image.

Masculine Card Camp 006 Here's the easiest card of the camp, but rather fun don't you agree? I just had to get this set and the coordinating designer paper after seeing so many cute ideas for it on Split Coast Stampers.

Masculine Card Camp 002 When I think masculine, I always reach for Lovely as a Tree and I like the Split Negative look. I'll be teaching this technique at the Technique Book classes this month, so campers will get a second chance to do it again (different cards of course!).

Masculine Card Camp 005 These stamps are from Roseburg Book & Stationery and are the Stamps of the Month. My boys loved their remote control monster trucks when they were little, so I had to have this stamp. We'll be using a brayer for the blue background and then coloring with odorless paint thinner and colored pencils. (aka Gamsol coloring)

Masculine Card Camp 001 Last but not least, we'll make this Indian chief card which is a pocket flap card. I have used this stamp set many times for Roseburg High School graduation cards & announcements since our mascot is the Indian.

I hope you've enjoyed these masculine cards and will consider joining us for the camp!
