It’s a Boy Scrapbook Layout

Our little grandson made his entrance into the world on November 23 and we are so excited to be grandparents!  Here’s another layout I’ve added to his scrapbook, which I’ll give to my DIL for Christmas.  She’ll be able to add the photos!

I used my Cricut for the words and the vehicles.  “Boys Will be Boys” is a wonderful cartridge full of boys toys and phrases!

Rock a Bye Baby Scrapbook Layout

This is another layout I’ve done for my DIL who is in labor as I’m typing this!  We might just have a grandson before the day is over :)

I used my Cricut  for the stars and Design Studio to weld the title for this layout. Cardstock is by Stampin’ Up: Bashful Blue, Brocade Blue, Barely Banana and various accessories.

First Christmas Scrapbook Layout

I have taken the last two days to get some scrapbooking done for my daughter-in-law who is past due with our first grandson.  It’s been a long time since I’ve played in the craft room just for the sake of playing, with no thoughts about upcoming classes, and it’s been FUN!  My hope is to get 20 layouts done in time to send for Christmas.  Check back soon, I’ll be adding more pages!

Here’s Conner’s first Christmas layout…

Nov2010 009

I used my Cricut to cut out “Christmas” and Santa’s sleigh/reindeer.  The background paper is Stampin’ Up’s Jolly Holiday DSP.  Stampin’ Up Cardstock colors are Very Vanilla, Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler & black.  The vanilla zig-zig strips (looks like rick-rack) were made with the Sizzix Bigz XL Die, Tasteful Trim offered in Stampin’ Up’s Holiday Mini Catalog (pg. 17).

Silly Bird Punch Art

Here’s one of my favorite punch art cards so far. Every month we make 2 punch art cards so I’m sure I’ll have some new faves very soon!

Haulin’ pumpkins

We’ll  practice using our Stamp-a-ma-Jigs in my Creative Card Design classes this month and here’s one of the cards we’ll be making.  I’m hearing that the pumpkin crops were kind of skimpy this year, but this lil’ lady is haulin’ quite a load!

Stamps I used: Loads of Love, Loads of Fun, Loads of Love Accessories, Autumn Harvest, Falling Leaves (grateful), Everyday Flexible Phrases (happy fall), Sanded ; Cardstock: Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Soft Suede, Shimmery White

Poppy Parade Christmas

I used a new color combination of Poppy Parade, Pear Pizzazz and Soft Suede (all Stampin’ Up!) for this Christmas card.  We made this at a recent workshop, using the new Bells & Boughs stamp set.

Mosaic Surfer

Many years ago I made a mosaic background with the scraps of rubber we end up with after purchasing Stampin’ Up stamps.  Recently I dug it out and decided to show my class attendees how to make their own mosaic.

Here’s a card I made using the mosaic as a background.

Paper Bag book 034

It’s really a simple card, quick and easy to make!  I used Pacific Point and Tangerine Tango cardstock.

Paper Bag Book “I’m Pregnant!”

No, not me silly!  My daugher-in-law who is due in November with my first grandchild!

While on vacation, I’ve been busy in the craft room finishing up some projects.  Here are some pictures of the paper bag book that I’ll be sending to Rosie…

My inspiration was some Karen Foster stickers and they went perfectly with some old Keeping Memories Alive paper that I’ve had in my stash for years.  Lots of embellishments using Prima flowers, brads, ribbon, hardware, rub on’s and of course rubber stamps!  I love making paper bag books because the sky’s the limit. Anything goes!   I still need to make some inserts to go inside the bags where Rosie can stash all kinds of notes and memorabilia.

A Simple “Just Believe”

I stamped this card up with the new “Just Believe”  set.  Many of you know that I have a hard time leaving cardstock blank, but on this card  the background is plain and I’ve added some of the new Victoria Crochet Trim on page 190 of the 2010-11 Stampin’ Up catalog.  Sometimes I like “simple”!

Guest Artist Jennifer

My friend and former Stampin’ Up demonstrator Jennifer Roth shared some of her cards with us at class last week and I asked if I could take some pictures to share on my blog and she agreed.  She has so much talent and actually gets away to her craft room every day to create at least one card.  Here are a few of them:

Aren’t they great!?!  Thank you Jennifer for sharing with us!  I will post a few more of her cards soon.

In Colors Card

Stampin’ Up’s new 2010-2011 In Colors are very bright and cheerful and I used several of them on this card that we did in early July.

July cards 010 It features the new stamp set, Awash with Flowers which is a 2-step stamping set where you stamp the outline then the inside “filler”.  The cardstock colors are as follows: Pear Pizzazz (the card), Poppy Parade, Concord Crush, Daffodil Delight & Peach Parfait.  Ink colors are Real Red (because I didn’t have Poppy Parade ink pad yet), Old Olive for the leaves and Eggplant Envy for the outline of the flower and words (again, because I didn’t have the Concord Crush pad yet!)

Hope you like it!

Playing with new colors

I have discovered a new website featuring Stampin’ Up’s colors.  It’s like a color coach, putting together different combinations with the touch of a button.  Check it out!  Select one or more colors from the left side column and then hit “search” to see which colors coordinate with your selection.  Here’s the link:  http://www.mycreateink.com/

Happy 4th of July!

I hope you’re enjoying the 4th with family and friends and lots of good food!  My heart has a tender spot for our military men and women, especially those who are serving over seas during our nation’s birthday.  I pray for God’s protection over them as they serve and protect us.

My card for today honors our troops because we are the home of the free BECAUSE of the brave.

Friends Never Fade

I have been struggling with the new Stampin’ Up colors (or should I say the loss of some old favorites!) so I bought the new Color Coach and it has helped me tremendously! Once I started playing with it and looking at the colors that the “Coach” suggests, it was easy to come up with some combinations of my own.

Here’s one card that we’ll be doing in my Creative Card Design classes in July. I love these colors together, but the picture doesn’t do them justice! It features a new stamp set called “Friends Never Fade”.

July cards 002

Bridal Shower card for my niece

The new 2010-11 Stampin’ Up Idea Book & Catalog went live today at noon.  With the introduction of new colors, stamp sets and  accessories, this catalog is truly amazing!  Get your copy today by calling or emailing me.

Today my mom and I stamped some bridal shower invites for my niece’s shower.  I based the invites on one the cards that we’ll be doing in my July Creative Card Design class.  I’ll show you that card tomorrow, but here’s what we did today…

July cards 005

Can you believe that out of ALL the stamps I own, I didn’t have a “shower” themed stamp.  I went to Michael’s and found this “it’s a shower” stamp in their dollar bins.

July cards 006

Don’t you just LOVE that new textured background?  It’s called

Vintage Wallpaper and it’s in the new catalog!

Just half a Sparkle and a Cheater Bow

I came up with a fun border for this card using the Sparkle Sizzlet die.  Cut each in half so that you have 3 halves and line them up the side.  We made this in my Creative Card Design classes in April.

April blog1 005

Stamps: Flight of the Butterfly, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Cardstock: Melon Mambo, Rich Razzleberry, Crushed Curry, Bermuda
Bay, Whisper White
Ink: Rich Razzleberry, Melon Mambo
Accessories: Melon Mambo Polka Dot Grosgrain, Word Window and Modern Label punches,Perfect Polka Dots texture folder

HOW TO MAKE A “CHEATER BOW”

To make this “cheater bow”, punch two small holes.  Run the ribbon through each hole so the ends are at the back of the panel.  Cross the ends over each other and bring them up the opposite hole.  Simple as pie and perfect every time!

Wow Flowers

Another card using the Sizzlet Sparkle die and Wow Flowers.  I am having so much fun with this set and die cut, plus the Bold Bright colors work so well with it.  And sadly, these colors are retiring at the end of June.  I’m know the new colors will be fun to work with, but I’m sure going to miss the retiring ones!

Color Renovation

Stampin’ Up made a big announcement this week about their new Color Renovation.  We will be saying good-bye to some old favorites and welcoming back some of the past In Colors.  They are also adding some new colors as well as 5 new In Colors!

I’ll admit that this announcement is difficult because change is always hard and because some of the colors we’ll be losing are my favorites.  However, because Stampin’ Up has put 2 years worth of research into these new color choices and they obviously know the trends better than I do, I will have to trust this decision to be a good one and I’m sure I’ll fall in love with the new color palette.

The following 30 colors will be leaving us:

Pink Passion
Pixie Pink
Pale Plum
Orchid Opulence
Lovely Lilac
Lavender Lace
Almost Amythyst
Bordering Blue
Ballet Blue
Brocade Blue
Brilliant Blue
Taken with Teal
Glorious Green
Handsome Hunter
Sage Shadow
Mellow Moss
Green Galore
Gable Green
Barely Banana
YoYo Yellow
Summer Sun
Apricot Appeal
Only Orange
Really Rust
Ruby Red
Cameo Coral
Blush Blossom
Creamy Caramel
Close to Cocoa
Going Grey

You have about 2 months before these are gone, so stock up on your favorites.  Remember that this change will affect ink pads and re-inkers, card stock, markers, watercolor crayons and color coordinated accessories, so get what you want while you still can.

That 70’s Sparkle!

This card makes me think about a stamp set that Stampin’ Up used to have with a Volkswagon and “peace” theme.  Some of you may remember that set and I can’t think of the name of it.  Anyway, this card is definitely bright and fun!

I have been playing with my Sizzlet  Sparkle die and this card is one of the results.  I added some Stickles to make it really sparkle!

Treat Cup Class

I just love Stampin’ Up’s treat cups!  They come in 2 shapes, hearts and circles.  Here are 4 cards that we made at my Treat Cup Class.

The sunflower and the frog are completely CASED but I don’t recall who created them.  I saw the lion on SCS and gave him a different background using the Paradise stamp set.  And the moon card was my original idea.

All of the cards have trap doors so that you can access the candy without ripping the card apart.  How sweet!

Workshop cards

We had a wonderful time at Barbara and Wilma’s workshop on Thursday, with 16 in attendance!  I featured the Sweet Pea Stitched Felt Flowers on page 32 in the Occasions mini catalog and the 2-Step Bird punch on page 10.  I saw some great ideas created by some very talented ladies and copied some of their cards to show at the workshop.  I don’t always remember where I found the idea, so I apologize for not giving credit where credit is due.

It’s amazing what you can do with a bird punch!  Here is a card that I CASED from Ann over at www.annscreativemoments.com featuring a Heliconia and yes, it’s made with the bird punch!

Unfortunately the card got thrown across the table and landed on a brown ink pad so there are some ink smudges that shouldn’t be there.  I haven’t had a chance to make a new one yet.

March cards 007

I also showed a card made by LeAnn Graff…

March cards 009

And a very cute card made with the Sweet Pea Stitched Felt Flowers.  This one uses the Ornament Punch for the vase.  If you’d like to order some of these felt flowers, head on over to my Stampin’ Up website at www.kristathomas.stampinup.net and place an order!  The Ornament Punch is still available even though it isn’t in any of Stampin’ Up’s current catalogs.  The write-in number is #116794, $15.95.

March cards 011

If you enjoy stamping or would like to learn how, consider coming to one of my classes.  You’ll meet some wonderful stampers and make some fabulous cards.  You can find my class schedule over on my Stampin’ Up website www.kristathomas.stampinup.net

Workshop Demo’s

Last Tuesday we had Debbie’s workshop in my studio and these are the cards I demo’d for the ladies.

Valentine 010

This is the first time I’ve used the new Sizzix Beautiful  Wings Embosslit die.  I just love these little buggers and they look great layered like this, don’t they?  The background was done with the new  Polka Dots embossing folder.

Valentine 012  Valentine 013

I shamelessly cased this card from SCS, a card done by Julie Davidson.  Love that new designer series paper with the glitter!  Stampin’ Up just continues to dazzle us, don’t they?

To make this card, cut cardstock to 4.25 x 11, fold in half and then fold the front flap in half again, accordian fashion.  Decorate as desired!
